A Little About Myself...
I have been married for 28 years to my husband Joe, whom I met in college at the University of Southern California. I received my B.A. degree in Communication Arts and Sciences for USC in 1980. I have three grown children. Liz is 24, married and working on her Masters Degree in Counseling at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. Matt is 21, and is a senior at Yale University with a major in Political Science and wants to attend law school. Andrew is 19 and is a sophomore at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo majoring in Agriculture. I am a self taught graphic designer and am pursuing a certificate in Web Design and Programming.
My Computer Experience...
I began using computers when we bought our first IBM PC with two floppy drives in 1982 for about $3500. I was filled with a desire to constantly play around and push buttons on every program I tried. I am a self-taught expert in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook and Powerpoint. I am an intermediate user of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, and beginner user of Dreamweaver. I began my use of computers with word processing and desktop publishing. While I stayed home to raise my children, I always volunteered to create school flyers, banners, newsletters. Overtime, I became much more advanced and creative with my projects, and was able to bring that into the work force when I went back to work. Each job I had gave me more opportunities to refine my skills, with my last position as Communication Coordinator of a non-profit organization. There I created branding, billboard advertisements, brochures, booklets, bumper stickers, logos, and began learning html to update our web site.
Why I am taking this class...
I was laid off in April of this year, and decided to go back to school. I wanted to be able to demand the kind of salary that my skill level deserved, but felt I needed to receive some professional training and credentials. I would like to try to have my own web site design and programming business some day and specialize in the non-profit industry. I would also like to help with my religious group's website design and updates.
