I am 50 years old and beginning a new chapter in my life. Between us my husband and I have five children and four grandchildren. I am a veteran's advocate working mostly with Gulf War Veteran's and chemical exposure. I was in a vehicle accident and no longer am able to drive well and had to change careers. So I am going back to school and hoping to eventually have a career in web design. I have signed up for the Virtual Office Professional Program with Sierra College with an emphasis on Web Design. I enjoy reading, writing, cooking, gardening, crochet, watching the Kings and playing with my grandkids
My computer skills are pretty basic. This semester is my first experience with on-line classes. I know Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Publisher, fairly well. I used Yahoo Site Builder to create my web sites – and while it was great for a complete novice, I now find that I would like to be able to do more and have more control over my sites. I have been playing with Outlook lately and using the calendar and contacts but not the e-mail program. I have gotten fairly good at research via the internet and am constantly amazed at what I can find there.
I am taking this class to learn web design. I have several sites that I currently manage and look forward to applying the skills I learn from this program to those sites. I found that in tinkering with Yahoo Site Builder I really enjoyed web design but want to know a better way to do it. My hope is to eventually be able to do web design for small businesses and other non-profit groups.
