History
The vineyard was f ounded in 1974 by the Akota family.
The Akota family vision was the production of
superior handcrafted, vineyard-optimized wines. Though the winery
nameis relatively young, the Akota family has been growing grapes
and making wine on their estates in Sonoma Valley, Manitoba,
and New York State since 1878. When this Placer County established
vineyard became available, the family came together on the shores
of Folsom lake to produce superior wines, capitalizing on the
best features of the soil and climate.
The winery is named for the White Horse who's story
is told among the Akota family ancestors. Read about
the Legend
of the White Horse.
Vinyard-Optimized Wines
Vinyard-optimized
wines come from grapes scientifically chosen and planted to match
the soil and climate conditions. Varieties are selected and planted
based on square-yard by square-yard analysis of soil chemistry,
producing an optimized and consist ant product that can be more
precisely developed into superb wines. At the same time we preserved
some of the older well established vines that were producing
superior grapes.
